The owners of Mosaic, Olympus Properties, sought to redefine their building’s identity through an ambitious lighting design as part of a multi-million-dollar renovation. Wiedamark, a trusted Dallas-based supplier of advanced LED lighting solutions, collaborated with Daryl Vaughan of Light Partners, a Houston-based creative lighting consultancy. Together, they delivered an extraordinary architectural lighting solution tailored to Mosaic’s unique character.

Overcoming Unique Challenges

To achieve the project’s vision, the team faced several technical and aesthetic challenges. Custom hardware was crafted to ensure optimal light placement, with elegant, discreet aluminum brackets designed to complement the building’s aesthetic. These brackets, adorned with a stenciled “M,” added a sense of transparency and sophistication while maintaining functionality.

Lighting the Tower with Color Kinetics

The Mosaic Tower’s lighting design features advanced Color Kinetics technology, including ColorReach Powercore and ColorReach Compact luminaires. Positioned strategically, these lights create vertical beams that graze the building’s iconic mosaic-tiled columns and cast an upper band of intense light around the roofline. The result is a vibrant and seamless interplay of color and architecture, showcasing the tower’s unique design elements.

Respecting History

As a historically significant building, Mosaic required careful consultation with the Dallas Historic Commission. The lighting design seamlessly integrates with the building’s original features, respecting its architectural heritage while introducing a bold new element of modernity. Custom fixtures were matched to the building’s light sand and black finishes to blend harmoniously with its surroundings.
